TDC will deploy up to 400 2-Mbit/s hotspots in Denmark through deals with Statoil, McDonald's, and Baresso Coffee
February 3, 2004
COPENHAGEN -- As the first company in Denmark, TDC is about to introduce a nation-wide concept for Hotspots. Through agreements with Statoil, McDonald's and Baresso Coffee, TDC will, in one move, establish up to 400 hotspots with speeds of up to 2 Mbit/s.
"150 years ago the foundation for electronic communications was laid with the opening of the first telegraph wire in Denmark. Now Denmark is really about to become wireless. Thus, we are facing the next step in the broadband society where the Internet follows us and we are not bound by stationary terminals and cables. With our solid position in the ADSL market, our commitment to fiber in approx. 200 cities over the next four years and now also targeted efforts as regards hotspots, TDC is able to offer customers a wide array of technologies which provide access to extremely fast Internet connections. Customers are not concerned with the underlying technology. All they want is easy access to fast Internet everywhere they go," says Lars Torpe Christoffersen, President of TDC Solutions.
McDonald's restaurants all over the country, Statoil service stations and Baresso espesso and coffee shops will get extremely fast and wireless Internet connections, and as soon as March 30, the customers will be able to get wireless access if they are near a TDC Hotspot.
"We are very pleased about our cooperation with three strong profiles: McDonald's, Statoil and Baresso. With these agreements we ensure that customers all over the country can obtain wireless access to the Internet. Customers will not have to search high and low for a place with wireless coverage, but can obtain Internet access at places they already know. This will be a tremendous advantage for e.g. sales people on the move who need to hook up quickly to the company's network," says Lars Torpe Christoffersen.
