COPENHAGEN -- TDC will become the first provider in Denmark to launch a nationwide network of hotspots, TDC Hotspot. Through agreements with Statoil, McDonald’s, and Baresso Coffee, TDC establishes more than 400 hotspots with speeds of up to 2 Mbps. And access is free the first three months.

“You might say that with TDC Hotspot we are opening 400 wireless offices for people on the move in Denmark. They open in places that people know: McDonald’s restaurants, Statoil gas stations, and Baresso Coffee’s espresso and coffee bars all over the country. TDC already has a solid footing within the broadband area, and experience tells us that customers do not care about the technology any longer – they just want to be able to log on to the Internet no matter the place or the time,” says Lars Torpe Christoffersen, President of TDC Solutions.

He points out that many business customers are demanding wireless access options as well.

“We start out with 400 hotspots, but we are not going to stop at that. We expect to establish an additional 200 wireless access locations before the end of 2004. A laptop computer or a handheld PDA equipped with a wireless network card and a subscription to TDC Hotspot are all it takes to log on. No further software or hardware installations are required,” says Lars Torpe Christoffersen.
