BUDAPEST, Hungary -- T-Systems and the BMW Sauber F1 Team have agreed on a technology partnership. Within the scope of this cooperation, Deutsche Telekom's business customer unit and BMW's Formula 1 Team will create innovative solutions based on information and communications technology (ICT). BMW and T-Systems want to develop and test new ICT solutions under the extreme conditions of Formula 1. The high-tech solutions will be applied after they have passed the tests of the BMW Sauber F1 Team.

The new cooperation marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between BMW and T-Systems. For example, the ICT service provider has co-designed solutions such as BMW TeleServices, whereby data about the maintenance status of automobiles is transmitted from cars on the go. With BMW Connected Drive, the car manufacturer also relies on the traffic control service TMCpro by T-Systems for its series-produced cars.

T-Systems is a globally leading ICT service provider for the automotive industry. Reinhard Clemens, Deutsche Telekom Board Member responsible for Business Customers and CEO of T-Systems, states, "The expansion of our cooperation with BMW marks an important milestone in attaining our goal, which is to become number one in this market at an international level."

T-Systems has set up a high-performance data connection for the racing team. The connection links locations in Munich, Germany, and Hinwil, Switzerland. Via this network, extensive amounts of data from the Formula 1 car's development, test and race phases can be exchanged securely and quickly. A logistics solution for car parts based on RFID (radio frequency identification) technology is currently being planned. The solution will enable the identification and positioning of all vehicle and replacement parts that travel with the Formula 1 Team around the world. Additional joint research and development projects are planned, for example, in the area of data security and the logging of operating times to optimize the service life of car parts.
