TEL AVIV, ISRAEL: ‘TeraChip Inc.’ announced today that it has raised funding of $4 million from the leading American VC ‘Benchmark Capital’. TeraChip develops switch fabric, which serves as the building block of future Internet routers. Benchmark’s funding joins a seed investment of $0.5 million.TeraChip was founded in late FY2000 by CEO Micha Zeiger, and evolved from a company called “I.C. Component Design”, which provided ASIC subcontracting services. The company currently has 11 employees, and is about to move to its new location, in the industrial park of the city of Lod. The company’s personnel include experienced engineers in the areas of routers, architecture, as well as digital, analog and silicon designs. During the next few months, the company intends to recruit a marketing manager and some 15 additional R&D engineers.“The chips which we are designing will allow telecom infrastructure vendors to build their next generation of switching systems which will handle Tera-bits per second”, says Micha Zeiger, founder and CEO of TeraChip. “TeraChip’s architecture reduces current solutions from the box to a single chip, while allowing us to increase the switch performance by an order of magnitude compared to current solutions”.Benchmark Capital
