SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Sonim Technologies, Inc., the leader in enabling today's wireless data networks to deliver high-margin voice services including Push-To-Talk, announced today that Joakim Wiklund has joined its management team as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Wiklund, a wireless technology veteran previously with Ericsson, brings more than 15 years of experience in mobile networks and wireless data applications to Sonim. Sonim is the PTT technology provider for Ericsson's Instant Talk solution.
"We are excited to have Joakim on board at this critical point of time when Sonim is about to deliver the industry's first standards-based Push-To-Talk solution," said John Burns, CEO and President of Sonim Technologies. "The appointment of Joakim to the Chief Technology Officer position fills an important and strategic leadership role in the company to ensure we continue to drive the wireless industry's growth with innovative and high-value voice services."
Wiklund spent over 15 years in various technical, product and line management roles with the leading mobile system giant, Ericsson. He was one of the founding members of Ericsson's GPRS team based in Stockholm that built and delivered the first GPRS end-to-end network solution, with full responsibility on the technology aspect of the product. Wiklund was one of the founding members of the 3G.IP initiative. 3G.IP was a group of Operators and Vendors that shared a common 3G Network architecture strategy. Contributions from 3G.IP members resulted in successful completion of Release 5 of Internet Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in 3GPP, in 2002. Wiklund moved to the U.S. in early 2000 as Director of Ericsson's Wireless Center in Silicon Valley, spearheading the company's initiatives on wireless data solutions and applications. Before joining Sonim, Wiklund worked closely with the company as Ericsson's Liaison Officer. He was very instrumental in guiding the Ericsson Sonim OEM relationship and Sonim's contribution to the Push-To-Talk over Cellular (PoC) standard development.
"I am thrilled to join the application leader in Push-To-Talk and be part of the team to deliver next-generation voice services," said Joakim Wiklund. "In the last few months, I had the unique opportunity to work with an extended team from Sonim, and I have been extremely impressed by their expertise in the voice applications market and their ability to execute."
