IRVINE, Calif. –– SMC Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the Enterprise, the SMB and all the way home, today announced the newest in its TigerSwitch™ family of high-performance switches, the TigerSwitch 10/100 Standalone L3 24-port Managed Switch (SMC6724L3). Available in November, the new switch packs the power and intelligence to improve overall network performance at an affordable per-port price that’s well below $50, at its MSRP of $1143.99.

Leveraging the best of Layer2, 3 and 4 switching capability, the new SMC6724L3 increases router performance and overall network speed and efficiency by identifying and prioritizing traffic flow with OSPF and DVMRP under IP/RIP protocols. The new SMC6724L3 switch calculates the shortest transmission path for all communications, and ensures that mission-critical data receive priority across subnets or VLANs. A downloadable firmware upgrade will add even more Layer 3 benefits, adding PIM-DM to the switch for network architectures that are sparsely distributed, and CIDR Supernetting to decrease route flapping. At the Layer 2 switching level, the TigerSwitch 10/100 is robustly equipped with advanced features such as 802.1p, CoS with IP precedence, DiffServ, 802.1Q, private VLANs, with future software upgrade to 802.1s, and SNTP for ease of network administration. The switch is designed to handle bandwidth-intensive multimedia deployment such as VOIP, video conferencing, or streaming media with ease.

As flexible as it is powerful, the new SMC6724L3 switch has 24 auto-MDIX 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports and two slots for optional Gigabit or 100BASE-FX uplink modules. One of the most secure switch in its class, it authenticates access and protects the network with advanced features including Access Control List set according to L2 to L4 information, SSH, SSL, RADIUS, 802.1x, while VLAN management maintains workgroup security.

“Security and economy are top priorities for businesses today, and this switch is on target,” said SMC product manager Jennifer Wu. “Our security surpasses that of all the competition, and the SMC6724L3 is not only being offered at a price that immediately shows economy, but it brings powerful routing protocols, OSPF and DVMRP, that offload expensive routers and enhances the overall performance of networks.”
