SAN DIEGO and IRVINE, Calif. -- Vativ Technologies andSMC(r) Networks announced today that Vativ's 10Gigabit Ethernet over CAT-5ecable technology has been selected by SMC for use with their high-performanceswitch products. Using Vativ's industry-leading V10LAN transceiver device, SMCwill be able to offer flexible, low-cost, interconnect solutions operating at10Gbps over ubiquitous CAT-5e cabling.
SMC will offer the V10LAN transceiver device in a XENPAK modulefor use with 24- and 48-port SMC TigerStack(tm) 1000 switches (SMC8724M andSMC8748M) beginning in June. As a result, SMC will enable switch-to-switch andswitch-to- router 10Gbps connections across CAT-5e cabling-an economicalalternative to more expensive optical solutions.
"We are very pleased that SMC has chosen Vativ's V10LAN solution fortheir high performance switch family," said Sreen Raghavan, President and CEO ofVativ Technologies. "The availability of this technology in a XENPAK formfactor is a boon to data center managers who can now effortlessly deploy 10 Gigabit Ethernet links using readily available and inexpensive CAT-5e cables."
"SMC is committed to leading the way to 10Gig," said SMC productmanager, Iain Kenny. "We're excited to be one of the first companies in theworld to offer a 10GbE over Cat 5e solution with our stackable Gigabit Ethernet switches. Vativ's technology, because it's effective, easy to installand use and affordable, will get more SMC networks to 10Gigabit, faster."
