MUNICH -- Siemens mobile, the Information and Communication Group of Siemens AG, is broadening its football sponsorship in China. In Beijing today, the mobile communication equipment supplier signed a contract with the Chinese Football Association (CFA) that extends its title sponsorship of the national league and broadens its rights: For three years from the start of the season on May 15, the league will be called the "Siemens Mobile Super League". In addition, the company will be sponsoring the league cup for the first time as the "Siemens Mobile Super Cup". Including its two further sponsorships, Siemens is now the largest sport sponsor in China: The company had only recently announced that it would also be sponsoring this year's Asian Cup. Moreover, Siemens will hold the rights to Team China, the country's national team, for a further year.

This means that Siemens mobile now holds all major sponsoring rights in Chinese football. The contract that was signed today offers the mobile phone manufacturer a broader range of opportunities for the 132 matches that the country's twelve clubs will be playing in 22 rounds: Siemens mobile will exclusively offer a mobile and online fan portal. Football fans will be able to elect the best player, to access information about results and players and to download logos, pictures and games. New partner for the nationwide TV broadcast of 22 games will be the Shanghai Mediagroup. All of the other games will be broadcast by regional TV stations. And Siemens mobile will additionally gain access to more advertising space in all Chinese stadiums.

Since launching its sport sponsoring activities in China in early 2003, Siemens mobile has seen an enormous boost in its brand awareness as a football sponsor: Today, Siemens is named first in response to the unaided question about league sponsor awareness.

In signing the sponsoring contract, Rolf Beisswanger, Head of Global Sponsoring at Siemens mobile, and CFA Vice President Nan Yong expressed their confidence that the two organizations will be able to build upon the successes of their partnership last year. The contract for the "Siemens Mobile Super League" will run for three years. Siemens holds an option to extend the contract at the end of the term.
