Siemens Business Services wins outsourcing contract worth over 35 million euros from Austrian mobile phone carrier ONE
January 20, 2005
MUNICH -- Effective immediately, Siemens Business Services (SBS) is responsible for running the entire IT infrastructure of the Austrian mobile phone carrier ONE for the next seven years. The outsourcing contract is worth 35 million euros and includes the takeover of 28 employees by SBS. ONE is looking to the outsourcing deal to safeguard the ongoing further development of operating quality and the consolidation of the systems with the ultimate goal of reducing the total cost of ownership.
In future, the mobile phone carrier will focus on its business processes and the associated support applications and hand over the operation of the IT infrastructure - including 400 servers, databases, an IT helpdesk for 850 users, standard applications (SAP R/3), storage systems and system management - to Siemens Business Services. In addition, the IT service provider will also run the IT infrastructure for SMS, MMS and voice box of ONE mobile customers. The first step was taken last year, when SBS took over the operation of the SAP systems used at ONE.
"For Siemens Business Services Austria, this is the first full-outsourcing contract in the telecommunications sector," comments Christian Oecking, President Global IT Outsourcing at Siemens Business Services. "Normally, Austrian companies tend to prefer selective outsourcing, but a growing trend toward larger outsourcing projects is beginning to emerge."
