Schott Optovance eases fiber routing issues with the Light Dealer, a mini fiber fan-out assembly that provides 50% space savings
August 5, 2002
SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. -- Optical interconnect authority Schott Optovance unveils its newest product in its fiber management portfolio devoted to compact fiber routing, the Light Dealer(tm) mini fiber fan-out assembly. The Light Dealer(tm) features a very compact transition area size of about 1 inch in length and a diameter of typically 0.2 inches, resulting in a 50% space-savings over other conventional assemblies. Satisfying the need for transitioning ribbon fiber to single fiber assemblies in a small space, this new product is designed to enable denser solutions for network equipment vendors, such as switch and router manufacturers, and component makers of passive components like arrayed waveguides (AWGs). With such a space advantage, the Light Dealer(tm) mini fiber fan-out assembly eases fiber management issues and space constraints that exist at the component, board and backplane level for designers. For example, with a more compact fiber fan-out assembly there is more space available to integrate more functionality on a board without sacrificing capabilities. "We continue to see the need for much smaller and flexible fiber management solutions and with our optical interconnect expertise we believe we are very qualified to deal with alleviating fiber chaos in the central office," said Trish Dawson, Director of Sales and Product Management for Schott Optovance. "The Light Dealer(tm) is a very cost competitive product as a result of the proprietary manufacturing techniques that have been mastered with our Optical Shuffle(tm) fiber management product. This provides the opportunity to OEMs, contract manufacturers, and cable assemblers to reduce their costs and complexities by outsourcing the manufacture of ribbon fan-outs to Schott Optovance." Note: The Light Dealer(TM) will be on display for the first time at upcoming tradeshows. Visit Schott Optovance at ECOC, Booth #166 and at NFOEC 2002, Booth # 2327. Schott Optovance Inc.
