Agere Systems announces $150M agreement to supply Samsung with chipsets and software for advanced data, multimedia mobile phones

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A - News, AGR.B - News) today announced an agreement with Samsung to supply wireless data chipsets and software for use in Samsung's new generation of advanced mobile phones. With this supply agreement, valued at more than $150 million over 12 months, Samsung phones will incorporate Agere's Global Packet Radio System (GPRS) solution. Samsung's GPRS-enhanced phones offer features that meet the demands of today's highly sophisticated mobile users, including high-speed Internet access, digital photo imaging, video downloading, high-resolution color LCD displays, polyphonic sound, and Java-enabled video games. Samsung, ranked No. 3 in global mobile phone sales*, is currently deploying these new phones worldwide.
