Samsung Electronics’ SGH-T100 Mobile Phone Enjoys Global Popularity

SEOUL, Korea –- The SGH-T100 mobile phone by Samsung Electronics is taking the world market by storm. The success of this model has been decisive in elevating Samsung to a solid third place ranking among the world’s mobile phone manufacturers. Samsung’s single model sales record of ten million units was set by the SGH-600 in 1998, and the company sold 5.1 million SCH-3500 mobile phones in 1999. However, the SGH-T100 is the first model to achieve sales of 4.5 million units in just six months. The SGH-T100 was initially launched in Europe and Asia in April, followed by a US launch in August. By October, sales had reached 2.05 million in Europe, 550,000 in Southeast Asia, 500,000 in China (model name in China: SGH-T108), 500,000 in the US (model name in the US: SPH-A500) and 900,000 in Korea (model name in Korea: SCH-X430) for a total of 4.5 million units. Samsung Electronics is confident that sales will exceed 6 million units by the end of this year. The SGH-T100 is a high-end product featuring a new-concept, 4096 high-quality color TFT-LCD for the first time in the world and supports various high-tech functions such as multiple polyphonic ring tone.
