SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- At IBC 2009 (stand #5.C14), RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, will demonstrate applications of its products that address the two biggest issues facing video service providers today – how to maximise available bandwidth to enable the delivery of more high definition (HD) and video-on-demand (VOD) services, and how to generate new revenue through zoned and targeted advertising to help offset the cost of network expansions.

RGB’s primary product demonstrations at IBC include:

* Dynamic Bandwidth Manager (DBM): Unique in the industry, RGB’s DMB is an economical solution for real-time, low-latency VOD bandwidth optimisation. Through RGB’s patented transrating technology, the DBM enables operators to deliver 50% more VOD streams on existing QAMs, avoiding costly node splits. The DBM allows for easy 'drop-in' network upgrades to relieve ‘hotspot’ congestion, achieving dramatic bandwidth savings for the addition of more HD VOD services.

* Broadcast Network Processor (BNP): RGB’s BNP is a multi-function video processing platform, offering operators a variety of tools for the delivery of advanced video services. With the industry’s highest video quality and stream processing density, the BNP performs grooming, transrating and statistical multiplexing, as well as seamless insertion of ads and digital overlays. Applications of particular interest include:

- 3:1 HD statistical multiplexing, allowing operators to deliver up to 50 percent more HD programming without increasing bandwidth, while ensuring a high quality viewing experience for subscribers.

- High-density digital overlays, enabling operators to generate new revenue streams by overlaying text, graphics and motion video on local and national ads, as well as other programming, reducing ad production costs and potentially doubling ad opportunities. Overlays can also act as ‘triggers’ to interactive content and telescoping ads.

* Modular Video Processor (MVP): RGB’s carrier-class MVP provides operators with a unified IPTV delivery platform supporting a variety of video processing functions in both MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 formats. A key application for this award-winning platform is high-density, seamless ad insertion, which utilises RGB’s proven zoned ad insertion capabilities to enable carriers to deliver ads to specific geographic areas. The ability to target ads is particularly important to advertisers as subscribers are less likely to skip ads that are more relevant and targeted, increasing the revenue potential for operators. With RGB’s MVP they can maximise this opportunity as they expand their IPTV deployments in a scalable manner.

“As video service providers around the world continue to expand their HD and on-demand services to enhance the customer experience and reduce customer churn—the challenge becomes keeping their networks in line with the pace of the changing environment,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President of Product Marketing for RGB Networks. “RGB’s scalable video networking solutions help operators to remain competitive today, while preparing them address new changes that are on the way as we move towards a ‘video everywhere’ world.”
