RGB Demos Ad Insertion
RGB Networks and BlackArrow demonstrate localized ad solution for telco carriers' video deployments
October 23, 2007
ATLANTA -- Here at the TelcoTV Conference & Expo, RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, and BlackArrow, a provider of multiplatform ad-management systems for viewer-controlled video, are demonstrating how telecom carriers can easily localize ads for both national and local advertisers to generate new ad revenues. At RGB's show floor booth, the companies are showing the BlackArrow system and RGB's Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) working together in real-time to take national video-based ads and digitally overlay locally-relevant, video graphics and text providing targeted ad zone information.
As telecom carriers increasingly rollout video services to their subscribers, the need to generate additional revenue grows. Many are turning to local ad insertion, which is proven in the cable television industry, earning U.S. cable operators nearly $4.3 billion in 2006 according to Kagan Research. However, the extensive post-production work traditionally required to localize ads dramatically increases costs, limiting the number of advertisers. The new digital overlay capability of the BNP can overcome this limitation, enabling carriers to easily localize ads in real-time by overlaying text, graphics and even video directly onto ads to provide locally relevant or time-sensitive information.Complementing the BNP in this demonstration is the BlackArrow system, which manages and provides the real-time ad decision rules based on selected ad type against the appropriate targeting criteria.
"Local advertising is a proven money maker, and together with BlackArrow, we are showing telco carriers that they can expand this lucrative opportunity by dramatically reducing the time, cost and effort advertisers have traditionally endured to localize ads," said Ramin Farassat, Vice President of Product Marketing for RGB Networks. "Combining ad insertion, digital overlay and tremendous stream processing density, our Broadcast Network Processor gives cable operators unprecedented abilities to easily and continually localize ads based on location, language and other factors to generate new ad revenues."

ATLANTA -- Here at the TelcoTV Conference & Expo, RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, is demonstrating how telecom carriers can use the company's new Modular Video Processor (MVP) to generate substantial advertising revenues by inserting local ads intotheir IPTV services. At the show, RGB will show its MVP seamlesslyinserting ads into MPEG-4/H.264 video streams, the digital video compression standard increasingly used by telecom carriers for IPTV deployments.
"Our new MVP combines RGB's proven ad insertion technology with MPEG-4 to give telecom carriers the ability to generate ad revenues that contribute to the bottom line and dramatically offset the cost of rolling out IP-based TV," said Sanjay Dhar, RGB's Director of Product Marketing, Telecom Market."Telcos increasingly realize the importance of ad revenues, and with the MVP, they can maximize this opportunity as they expand their IPTV deployments."
In the demonstration, the MVP will request and receive ads from a C-COR n5 video and ad server. The MVP will then splice the ads into the programs at precisely the right time. Inserting ads at the correct time is vitally important for ensuring that the local ads play in their entirety and that the preceding and following ads are not interrupted.
