LOS ANGELES -- RED-C, a maker of a comprehensive line of optical amplifiers, has announced the launch of its self-managed EDFA, the Sentior 3550, the next generation in the evolvement of optical amplifiers, capable of adapting to network transmission without network management intervention, as well as of reducing bit errors rate thus allowing for materially longer spans.

RED-C’s Self Managed Optical Amplifier, the Sentior 3550, uses a tunable filter to screen and analyze the signals’ spectral shape, enabling it to self-set its performance without management system interference. The continuous spectral monitoring results in: optimized spectral tilt, self determination of amplifier gain, ease of integration of passive and active modules at amplifier mid-stage (for example OADM, ROADM, DGE, DCM) and provision of channel OSNR mapping at EDFA output for system management. The Sentior 3550 provides the system management with an online data regarding signals’ status via SNMP or TL1 interfaces.

Incorporating various optical modules at its mid-stage access, the amplifier will further improve system OSNR and reliability, will simplify network’s design and will materially reduce its cost. The Sentior 3550 packaging and interfaces are identical to those of the Sentior 7550, RED-C’s standard variable gain EDFA, allowing its convenient integration within existing systems. Based on RED-C’s innovative design for its dynamic optical amplifiers, the Sentior 3550 is designated to serve as fundamental element in future optical networks.

Yossi Boker, CEO & Co-Founder, RED-C commented, “The launch of the Sentior 3550 is a further step in RED-C’s commitment to provide its customers with the best of breed of optical amplifiers. Allowing system vendors much greater performance and flexibility in designing and implementing their transmission gear, we are confident that the self-managed amplifier will play a major role in future optical networks.”

RED-C team invites you to hear more about the new Sentior™ 3550 in booth 4853 in the OFC:04, Feb. 24-26, LA convention center. For further information please contact Arik Hertz, VP Sales and Marketing, [email protected], telephone: +972-54-867-665.
