ElectroniCast's predicts the market for pump laser diode modules will reach $255M by 2008
February 24, 2004
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- According to ElectroniCast's new Global Market Forecast, the global consumption value of Pump Laser Diode Modules will reach $255 million by the year 2008. "During years 2008-2013, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), 'Green-Field' (new-builds), and the 'lighting-up' of 'DARK FIBER,' will cause an impressive increase in the deployment of Optical Fiber Amplifiers (OFAs), utilizing pump laser diode modules," ElectroniCast President Stephen Montgomery said.
Last year, the use of pump laser diode modules reached just-over $70 million in telecommunication applications. Driven primarily by the deployment of OFAs in China, the Japan/Pacific Rim pump laser diode module market will increase in value to a leading $424 million in year 2013.
"DWDM will begin to make a noticeable comeback. DWDM rated OFAs typically will use more 1480nm pumps versus 980nm pump laser modules. The 980nm pump modules also are used in Metro/Access OFAs. 1480nm pump laser diode modules with an output power capability of >200 mW will eventually take the market share lead, mainly used in WDM networks," Montgomery said.
