Belgacom contracts with Huawei for its Proximus Radio Access Network

BRUSSELS -- 2G, 3G and LTE services will be simultaneously supported by a “Single Radio Access Network” platformBelgacom, the Belgian incumbent telecom operator, and Huawei, a leader in providing next-generationtelecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced the signature of a frameagreement enabling the progressive upgrade of its entire radio access network with Huawei’s innovative andindustry-leading SingleRAN solution across Belgium. The new network will enable a cost-effective nationalrollout of fast mobile data technology, allowing more than 5 million Belgacom mobile subscribers to enjoy anincomparable mobile broadband experience.
Under this long-term frame agreement, Belgacom will upgrade the entire radio access network across GSM,UMTS, LTE and multiple frequencies, providing a simplified high-capacity, high-performance network and afuture-proof investment. This upgrade will cover the whole Belgian territory over the years to come.
