RAPID CITY, S.D. -- PrairieWave Communications announced today that it has successfully completed its combination with Black Hills FiberCom. The $103 million transaction was effective as of the close of business on June 30.

“This is a combination of two very strong companies who are leaders in competitive telecommunications, providing advanced broadband services to more than 60,000 customers,” stated Craig A. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of PrairieWave Communications. “This transaction approximately doubles the size of our operations and enhances our focus on providing voice, video and broadband services to communities in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. It also provides opportunities for us to bring new services to all of our community markets at competitive prices and with a continued high degree of service quality.”

Anderson and David Emery, chairman, president and CEO of Black Hills Corporation, celebrated the completion of the transaction with employees, local business representatives, legislators and other community leaders. This morning’s event at the Black Hills FiberCom office in Rapid City included a “rope cutting” by the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce.

"While this transaction concludes a chapter of our company's innovative history, it also ushers in an exciting new beginning for an enterprise solely focused on broadband telecommunications. We believe the future direction is best for all concerned--out customers, our communities, and our investors," Emery said. “PrairieWave is a South Dakota-based company that places high importance on its commitment to superior customer service, value-priced offerings, and community involvement. For all of the effort Black Hills proudly put into FiberCom, we are pleased to entrust it to PrairieWave, a company that will continue to provide the products and service that customers of Black Hills FiberCom have come to expect.”
