Phyworks FEC Becomes ITU Standard

Phyworks announces its Advanced FEC algorithm has been standardized by the ITU in its recently approved Recommendation G.975.1

BRISTOL, U.K. -- Phyworks Ltd, a fabless semiconductor innovator today announces that its Advanced FEC algorithm has been standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in its recently approved Recommendation G.975.1.

Set to become the global standard superseding the current recommendation G.975, the new ITU specification - including Phyworks' algorithm - provides a standards-based platform from which operators will now be able to double the bandwidth capacity of existing terrestrial and submarine optical networks - without the massive cost penalties associated with such an advance.

"ITU Recommendation G.975.1 provides carriers and equipment vendors with the latest FEC algorithms, enabling higher network performance at the lowest cost", according to Allard van der Horst, Product Manager at Phyworks. "Appendix I.5 describes Phyworks' Advanced FEC algorithm and shows it to provide the highest net coding gain - setting new standards for high-performance optical networks."
