BEAVERTON, Oregon -- Since its introduction in 1991, the Photon Kinetics 2400 Fiber Geometry System has established itself as the industry standard for optical fiber geometry measurements, enabling manufacturers to improve production processes and reduce the tolerances of several critical fiber dimensions by more than 50%, to today’s sub-micron levels. At OFC 2004, Photon Kinetics will take fiber geometry measurements to the next level with the introduction of the 2420 Fiber Geometry System.
Drawing on more than a decade of optical fiber geometry measurement experience, the next generation 2420 improves the precision of several key fiber dimensional measurements by an order of magnitude to just a few nanometers. Nanometer precision will enable fiber manufacturers to continue to tighten product geometry specifications, and increase differentiation for their products in today’s highly competitive optical fiber marketplace.
The 2420 features many of the same high efficiency operator interfaces found in other PK measurement systems – high speed fiber handling, visual end inspection and customizable test sequences using Visual Basic .NET running under the MS Windows XP Operating System. The 2420 supports all current 2400 measurement options for coating geometry and fiber curl.
