WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. -- Optical Communication Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCPI), a manufacturer of fiber optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan area, local area and storage area networks, today announced the availability of its 100km multi-rate OC-48 Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) small form pluggable (SFP) transceiver with integrated digital diagnostics monitoring (DDM) to support long distance metropolitan area networking (MAN) applications.

"We continue to expand our CWDM SFP product portfolio. The extended reach option of our OC-48/STM-16 modules provides the end-user with a 100km solution in the metro market," said Kirk Bovill, director of marketing. "We are very focused in providing our customer base with a solution set of products that address real market requirements."

OCP's extended reach OC-48 CWDM SFP multi-rate transceivers are available in eight wavelength channels, at nominally 1471nm, 1491nm, 1511nm, 1531nm, 1551nm, 1571nm, 1591nm and 1611nm. Color-coded latches are used to identify the different wavelengths. The DFB lasers used in these SFP transceivers feature an integrated optical isolator for stable transmitter operation under the varying back-reflection conditions that exist in installed cable plants. A high performance APD and low noise transimpedance amplifier are used to offer a minimum optical link budget of 30dB. This allows the transmission distance to be extended to 100km instead of the 80km typically specified in OC-48 Long Reach LR-2/L16.2 SONET/SDH standards. It is also fully compatible with existing 80km systems where the extra 2dB of link budget can be used to offset any additional loss from the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer components.

The modules are designed for multi-rate applications, supporting data rates ranging from 2.67Gb/s down to 125Mb/s. The DDM functionality adheres to the SFF-8472, Revision 9.3 specification and enables the end-user to monitor five key areas in the performance of the SFP transceiver: internal temperature, DC supply voltage, transmitter bias current, transmitter output power and receive optical signal level. Integrated DDM functionality also incorporates warnings and alarms to monitor these parameters.

In addition to CWDM SFP transceivers, OCP offers a full portfolio of single wavelength SFP solutions with DDM functionality to address OC-48 applications with transmission distances of 2km, 15km, 40km and 80km.

OCP's OC-48 CWDM SFP multi-rate transceivers will be on display at the OFC/NFOEC 2005 Conference and Exposition on March 8-10, 2005 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Please visit OCP's booth #1221 for more information.
