ORLANDO, Fla. -- Nuonics, Inc. (www.nuonics.com) an early stage startup company announced today that it has been awarded a U.S. patent for its paradigm shifting proprietary SMPTM Technology that enables the design of all-digital fault-tolerant fiber-optic components and processors. Patent Number 6,222,954 titled " Fault-tolerant Fiber-Optical Beam Control Modules," Inventor, Nabeel A. Riza, was issued to Nuonics by the U.S. Patents and Trademark Office. The patent features the revolutionary SMPTM: Spatially Multiplexed Processing optical design methodology for fiber-optics where a macro-pixel is used to control the direction and strength of an individual light beam. SMPTM Technology is the first ever to eliminate catastrophic failure in fiber-optic components and is particularly appropriate for moving parts micromirror based designs. The patent features SMPTM -MEMS based components such as variable optical attenuators, multi-wavelength gain equalizers, 2x2 switches, and reconfigurable wavelength add-drop modules.Nabeel Riza, CEO, President and Founder of Nuonics states that “ SMPTM Technology empowers the realization of an-all digital VOA where both the optical and electronic hardware are completely digital leading to unprecedented VOA features such as no hysteresis, digital resolution upgrading, rock solid repeatability, that are not possible using todays analog VOAs.”Nuonics Inc.
