EAST GRANBY, Conn. -- Nufern today unveiled its 1060HP high-performance, select cut-off single-mode fiber at ECOC 2001, the European Conference on Optical Communication, in Amsterdam. Designed for use in laser pigtails, fiber couplers, and other active and passive devices used in telecommunications networks, Nufern 1060HP offers optimal performance, with tighter specs than competing select cut-off fibers, for less cost.Proof-tested at >=200 kpsi, the fiber provides a tighter bend radius than other fibers tested at 100 kpsi. With a second-mode cut-off of 920 ± 30 nm, Nufern 1060HP improves the accuracy of devices that must operate at specific wavelengths. The fiber also delivers tighter tolerance with a fiber diameter of 125 ± 1.5 um and improved splicing with a core/clad concentricity of <=0.5 um."Our highly engineered select cut-off fiber, which we have competitively priced, offers strength that is unmatched," says Dr. Adrian Carter, Nufern Chief Technical Officer. "The high proof strength and tight tolerances of Nufern 1060HP permit components manufacturers to realize improved production yields, reduced manufacturing costs, and increased component reliability."In a separate release:Nufern, a manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, announces the opening of its world headquarters in East Granby, Conn. The new 50,000-sq.-ft. state-of-the-art facility enables Nufern to consolidate under one roof the design, high-volume production, and testing of highly engineered optical fiber for telecommunications, industrial, medical, and aerospace applications. Coupled with the company's optical labs and production facility in Sydney, Australia -- which have been in operation since 1999 -- Nufern is positioned to fulfill large-scale orders for premium-grade, application-specific optical fiber and provide round-the-clock customer support. "Opening this unique facility on time and on budget was a key milestone in the growth of Nufern," says Martin Seifert, Nufern CEO. "Part of our goal was to show the industry that we had assembled a team with the expertise and the drive to set demanding timelines and meet them."Nufern
