Nortel Networks/Netas to supply wireless equipment for Aycell Network expansion in Turkish GSM market

ISTANBUL -- Aycell expects to invest approximately US$145 million over three years -- including approximately US$94 million in infrastructure equipment and services from Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT.)/Netas (ISE:NETAS.IS) -- to expand its GSM 1800 digital wireless network. Under a three-year frame agreement, Nortel Networks/Netas, a Nortel Networks subsidiary, will supply Aycell with base stations and related equipment, as well as project management, technical support, training, repair and return, and other engineering and customer services. "Our target is two million subscribers by the end of year 2002," said Fahrettin Aydyn, general manager of Aycell, which is owned by Turk Telekom and operated as a separate entity.
