Nortel Networks announces a tunable transmitter integrating VCSEL and a modulator; it will be part of a live demo at OFC
March 13, 2002
OTTAWA -- Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT) (TSE:NT.) today announced a tunable, co-packaged, small footprint, 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) transmitter aimed at providing high value and flexibility at low cost. The LG10M, now sampling, will be part of a live demonstration at Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) 2002 in Anaheim, March 19-21 (Anaheim Convention Center, Booth #3510). The demo will also include the recently announced LC25 series transmitters, MT25T Tunable Transmitter, Mini block and Vari-gain amplifier products, as well as receivers and performance monitoring equipment. The LG10M integrates a Gallium Arsenide Mach-Zehnder modulator, variable optical attentuator, locker and power monitor with a continuous-wave, wide-tunable Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) in the smallest available package. It is designed to operate with 100 GHz spacing within the C and L bands on the ITU dense wave division multiplexing grid. "An example of our leadership in optical component integration and tunability, the LG10M provides a single solution that addresses modulation, laser and tunability requirements, saving time and improving flexibility for board-level design," said Patrick Walsh, vice president, Optical Components, Nortel Networks. "The LG10M co-packaged device enhances our advanced product capabilities aimed at strengthening network intelligence and performance." Nortel Networks Corp.
