MINNEAPOLIS and ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire -- NextNet Wireless, the industry’s most widely deployed provider of NLOS plug-and-play broadband wireless access systems, and Afnet Internet Services, a leading Côte d’Ivoire telecommunications provider, announced today the commercial launch of West Africa’s largest non-line-of-sight (NLOS) plug-and-play broadband wireless services, targeting 4 million people in the nation’s capital of Abidjan. Afnet’s new DREAMNET™ service is based on OFDM-NLOS-PLUG-AND-PLAY technology developed by NextNet, a principal member of the WiMAX Forum™. This same technology is deployed today over licensed frequencies by NextNet’s carrier partners in over 30 markets globally.

The DREAMNET high-speed Internet service features a small, self-installable wireless modem that connects to the user’s computer in minutes. The plug-and-play wireless modem eliminates professional installations, as well as the downloading of software, and the need to configure the user’s computer. Unlike cable and DSL, the DREAMNET wireless modem is also “location flexible,” which means that the user is free to move it from the home, to the office or school, or to any other location within the carrier’s coverage area. DREAMNET supports all IP compatible broadband applications over a wide area cellular network capable of delivering service to millions of potential subscribers. Afnet is distributing its DREAMNET service and wireless modem through its retail stores across Abidjan.

"We see a huge potential for broadband wireless services in Côte d’Ivoire," stated Mohamad Khatoun, General Manager of Afnet Internet Services. "We teamed up with NextNet because their OFDM-based NLOS system is the right platform for our vision to provide consumers and businesses alike with fast, reliable, and affordable plug-and-play access to the Internet. We are extremely energized by the proven success of NextNet’s technology and adopted business model, and we look forward to delivering service throughout Abidjan and expanding nationwide," added Mr. Khatoun.
