Unique "3-In-1" isolator array, to be debuted at OFC, will save space and lower costs for long-haul and metro networks
March 5, 2002
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- New Focus, Inc., (Nasdaq: NUFO), a leading supplier of innovative products serving the telecommunications, test and measurement, and photonics tools markets, today announced the introduction of a new "3-in-1" isolator array designed for Raman and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) as well as newer, lower-cost erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers (EDWAs). Through a patent-pending design, the new Tri-Isolator(TM) packages three isolators in less space and at a lower cost than three discrete components. This hybrid array device saves network space, offers comparable optical performance, and lowers manufacturing costs for long haul as well as metropolitan and other short-reach systems providers. "The Tri-Isolator complements our family of hybrid devices and builds upon our strength in optical component design and manufacturing," said Dr. Timothy Day, chief technology officer and co-founder of New Focus. "With this new product, New Focus continues to address the market trend away from discrete components and toward integrated hybrid passive devices ultimately resulting in significantly lower costs for systems providers. We are currently sampling the Tri-Isolator and have received positive responses from our customers." This new product will be demonstrated at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference, booth #2501, in Anaheim, California, March 19-21, 2002. New Focus Inc.
