NEC and Itochu to supply fixed point-to-point Pasolink PDH system to Maxis in Malaysia

TOKYO -- NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) announced that NEC and ITOCHU Corporation (TSE: 8001) have signed a 3 years contract with Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd (Maxis) in Malaysia to supply NEC's fixed point-to-point PDH microwave system "PASOLINK".
Maxis Broadband Sdn Bhd (Maxis)@deploys and operates the mobile network under a holding company, Maxis Communications Bhd, which provides the mobile full range of telecommunication service.
Currently, the number of mobile subscribers in Malaysia is approximately12 million and Maxis, with a market share of more than 40% or 5.27 million subscribers, is the numberNo.1 mobile operator in Malaysia.
The mobile communication penetration ratio in Malaysia is still less than 50% and the further subscriber expansion is highly expected.
NEC's PASOLINK will be employed for further expansion of Maxis's mobile network, connecting the mobile base stations.
