FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS - News), a leading provider of technologies and solutions for converged and mobile networks, today announced that MTC Namibia, the largest GSM operator in Namibia, will deploy NMS's AccessGate(TM) RAN backhaul optimization solution to cost-effectively support the rapid growth of its mobile subscriber base to 50 new population centers throughout the country. AccessGate will be deployed in conjunction with VSAT modems and hubs developed by satellite-based broadband access solutions provider iDirect. Advanced Telecoms, a leading regional integrator of solutions for mobile applications and infrastructure, is providing design, installation and support services for the MTC deployment, along with support from SatCom, a leading Namibian satellite implementation company.

AccessGate optimizes the transport of GSM and UMTS voice and data traffic over TDM- and IP-based wireless networks, allowing mobile operators to accommodate growth and roll out new subscriber services more quickly and cost-effectively. AccessGate is equipped with patented deep packet inspection RAN optimization technology as well as vendor-independent, multi-service and multi-protocol aggregation capabilities. With outstanding performance well established in more than 25 operator deployments worldwide, AccessGate's bandwidth optimization solutions address the full spectrum of remote cell sites, regional hubs and mobile switching centers.

Unlike most other wireless backhaul optimization products on the market today, AccessGate delivers exceptional optimization efficiencies with no degradation in network performance or voice quality, highly important for wireless operators keen on assuring an optimal subscriber experience. AccessGate has been certified to interoperate with all major brands of network base station subsystem equipment and integrates seamlessly with existing terrestrial leased line, satellite and microwave-based RAN infrastructures. When coupled with iDirect's statistical bandwidth sharing capabilities over IP-based satellite backhaul infrastructure, AccessGate delivers dramatic reductions in operational expenses compared to more traditional geostationary satellite facilities.

"Cost-effective deployment of mobile services is extremely important in Namibia, as is the ability for us to provide a quality, affordable offering to our customers," said Jochen Traut, General Manager of Operations at MTC. "This future-proofed solution allows us to rapidly deploy new base station equipment in our network for the communications needs of today, while significantly reducing our operational costs and preparing for tomorrow's growth in both subscribers and new services."
