President and COO Ed Breen leaves to be chair and CEO of Tyco, Mike Zafirovski named as successor; eBayers get a chance to custom-design V60i phones

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- Motorola, Inc., (NYSE: MOT) confirmed today that Edward D. Breen, its former President and Chief Operating Officer, has accepted the position of Chairman and CEO of Tyco International Ltd. Christopher B. Galvin, Motorola Chairman of the Board and CEO, will assume the additional responsibilities of Chief Operating Officer until a successor is named. "I want to thank Ed for his significant contributions - first in accomplishing the post-merger synergies of General Instrument and Motorola, and, most recently, as Chief Operating Officer for the last six months," Galvin said. "I have enjoyed working with Ed and wish him all the best at Tyco. In a separate release: Motorola, Inc., (NYSE: MOT) Motorola today announced that it has appointed Mike Zafirovski, currently executive vice president and president of Motorola's Personal Communications Sector, as its new President and Chief Operating Officer. Zafirovski was elected at a special meeting of the Motorola Board of Directors that took place at 4:00 p.m., CDT, today. "I selected Mike for this position and the Board of Directors quickly confirmed Mike's appointment this afternoon, demonstrating the effectiveness of our Leadership Supply process," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher B. Galvin. "Under Mike's leadership, over the past two years. Motorola's handset business has gained market share, returned to profitability and introduced an exciting portfolio of products," said Galvin. "With his track record of solid results, both at Motorola and at General Electric, Inc., I am confident that he will continue the momentum of Motorola's turnaround, and I look forward to having him join the Office of the Chairman." Zafirovski will also continue as President of Motorola's Personal Communications Sector until a successor is named. In a separate release: LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced a new auction on the company's eBay store providing consumers the ability to design their own Motorola V60i -- an enhanced version of one of the nation's top selling phones, the Motorola V60. Each day for a month, beginning August 1, three phones will be placed for a three-day auction on the eBay marketplace at www.motorola.com/makemymoto. Approximately 100 phones will be auctioned off in total. Winning bidders will receive the exclusive opportunity to customize the exterior and interior of their phone, creating a mobile phone that best reflects their individual style and taste. Consumers will choose from a rainbow of anodized aluminum covers for the front and back of the phone, as well as select from multiple designs for the front lens containing the Motorola V60i's exterior caller ID. Motorola will also personalize each handset with the winner's name and program the customer's phone book entries and date book reminders. All auction winners will receive a Vehicle Power adapter and one-touch headset as part of their exclusive package.
