PITTSBURGH, PA and NETWORLD + INTEROP, LAS VEGAS, NV -- Marconi, a global supplier of advanced communications solutions, today introduced a new family of intelligent WAN access products in its new Service Edge portfolio, the SE 420 and SE 440, that give service providers and enterprises new tools to capitalize on the competitive opportunities available with ATM networks.

The SE 420 and SE 440 are WAN access products that provide intelligent, QoS-enabled integration of voice, video, and data to ATM Wide Area Networks at speeds of sub-T1/E1 to OC3/STM. Targeted at enabling the interconnection of enterprise sites and applications, the product family is ideally suited for service providers who wish to offer a managed convergence service. The SE 420 and SE 440 products provide flexible connectivity and the ability to support large network growth due to their support of signaled switched voice over a switched ATM core.

The devices expand the solutions that Marconi's service-provider clients can offer to new enterprises and also to established enterprises evolving into the advantages of intelligent broadband networking from a copper wire legacy. The SE 420 and SE 440 are designed for carriers offering end-to-end, integrated, managed services and by enterprises such as government, healthcare and education that are extending converged networks to remote sites. The devices' support for guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) and scalability make providing integrated voice, video and data services simpler and cheaper.

Recognizing that support for legacy service is critical as networks evolve, the SE 400 series provides the flexibility to consolidate data traffic from existing routers, frame relay devices, TDM, and SDLC devices. The SE 420 and SE 440 also provide support for native 10/100 mbps Ethernet, with integrated bridging and routing capability.
