MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that its unified communications platform, the AnyPath(R) Messaging System, has surpassed 500,000 active subscribers with its most recent deployment by MetroPCS. In 18 months, the AnyPath system, which enables subscribers to access and manage all their communications needs on one platform, has moved successfully from controlled trials to live service deployments with service providers in North America and South America.

The AnyPath Messaging System enables subscribers to access and manage all of their communications needs on one platform -- voicemail, e-mail, faxes, text messages, and voice-activated Web-browsing -- using a telephone, wireless device or personal computer. MetroPCS launched a live deployment of the AnyPath Messaging System this fall in San Francisco and selected the AnyPath system because it offers a comprehensive unified communications platform that can grow with MetroPCS as they roll out new applications and services to their subscribers.

"We're very pleased to be able to provide MetroPCS and others with a solution that allows them the flexibility and scalability to offer everything from basic voicemail to more enhanced services as their customers' messaging needs change and grow," said J.J. Lhospital, vice president and general manager for Messaging Solutions at Lucent. "We now have the AnyPath system deployed successfully with several customers and we are seeing their subscriber bases grow as the ease and benefits of unified communications become apparent."
