OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Looking Glass Networks(SM) Inc., a facilities-based provider of metropolitan data transport services, has announced a contract valued at over ten million dollars with Cogent Communications , a next generation optical Internet service provider, to build dark fiber networks to be lit by Cogent in nine metro markets and provide connectivity to over 100 key enterprise buildings in those cities. Looking Glass will expedite the delivery of Cogent's affordable, ultra-high speed Internet access and transport services to meet growing demand in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Demand for Cogent's service has exceeded expectations, hence Cogent has increased the scope of the original contract, signed in December 2001. Combining dark fiber from Looking Glass' backbone with specialized lateral connections, Cogent will increase its connectivity and extend its reach to new buildings in nine markets by the end of the year. "Looking Glass' proven experience, existing network footprint, and ability to rapidly connect to Cogent's desired locations are all key factors in our decision to expand our relationship with Looking Glass as a dark fiber metro network provider in several markets," said Dave Schaeffer, CEO, Cogent Communications. "Looking Glass has exceeded our expectations by beating delivery dates, thereby enabling Cogent to roll out service faster to more customers in some of our largest markets. "Our association with a quality ISP like Cogent further illustrates the value of Looking Glass' flexible service offering," said Lynn Refer, CEO, Looking Glass Networks. "Our ability to meet the needs of customers like Cogent for dark fiber benefits not only our customers but their end users as well. With an experienced team and proven on-time project delivery, we provide our customers with the security they need in a metro service provider, particularly in today's turbulent market."
