Ronald C. Foster will replace the retiring Anthony R. Muller as chief financial officer of JDS Uniphase

SAN JOSE, Calif. and OTTAWA -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (Nasdaq: JDSU - News; TSX: JDU - News) announced the appointment of Ronald C. Foster as its new Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Foster plans to join JDS Uniphase in mid-February, and he will replace Anthony R. Muller, the Company's current CFO who will retire at the end of February as was announced in July 2002. Mr. Foster joins JDS from Novell Corporation where he has been CFO, responsible for Finance, Tax, Treasury, Internal Audit, Information Systems, Investor Relations, Operations, and Real Estate. In his prior position as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller, Mr. Foster was responsible for worldwide financial planning, reporting, and operations. Prior to Novell, Mr. Foster was Vice President, Operations Controller for Applied Materials. In these roles, Mr. Foster implemented shared service programs and other consolidation and integration activities similar to those being undertaken at JDS Uniphase. "Ron is a highly qualified professional with solid experience overseeing the financial operations of a global organization," said Jozef Straus, co- chairman and CEO of JDS Uniphase. "With almost 20 years in high technology, Ron's experience will provide financial leadership to the current operational and strategic activities in place at JDS Uniphase.
