Or: Convergent unites with IP Unity
February 13, 2002
MILPITAS, Calif. -- IP Unity Inc., provider of a carrier-grade services platform for enhanced voice and telephony applications, today announced that it has forged a strategic partnership with Convergent Networks, a leading provider of broadband voice infrastructure solutions, and confirmed the successful completion of interoperability testing between Convergent Networks' softswitch solution and IP Unity's media server platform. Convergent Network's Cohesion(TM) product suite provides a packet-based, economical alternative to traditional Class 4 and Class 5 switches and an open applications environment for service delivery. When deployed in conjunction with IP Unity's Harmony6000(TM) media server, the solution provides carriers with an enhanced voice and data services platform that works in both circuit-switched and packet-based networks. The combination of IP Unity's Harmony6000(TM) media server and Convergent Networks' Cohesion(TM) softswitch allows carriers to offer enhanced services on both tandem and local calls at a lower cost than is currently possible with traditional switches and gateways. IP Unity's platform is composed of a media server, an application server and applications, and works in conjunction with Convergent Networks' softswitch platform to enable telephony services such as auto-attendant, unified messaging, voicemail, interactive voice response (IVR), remote conferencing and calling card services. IP Unity's media server provides the intensive processing power required for functions such as DTMF detection, audio recording and playback, speech recognition, transcoding, text-to-speech and audio mixing, all of which are necessary for complex voice and data applications. "IP Unity and Convergent Networks share a common commitment to bringing the enhanced capabilities associated with next-generation networks to carriers today, offering proven solutions for both legacy and next-generation networks," said Sally Bament, vice president of marketing at Convergent Networks. "Our softswitch provides an open applications environment for our service partners, while providing the economic advantage, unmatched scalability and the reliability that carriers need to begin to deploy exciting, new revenue-generating services."
