CAMBRIDGE, U.K. -- ip.access ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of TTP Communications Plc (LSE:TTC), today announced the successful demonstration of a GSM Private Branch Exchange (PBX) working with a live PBX system. In partnership with Zynetix, the developers of the Linux-based PBX integration technology, the ip.access solution enables mobile network operators to break into the lucrative fixed-line market by complementing or even replacing office-based PBXs – making the “one-phone” vision a reality for today’s enterprises.

The solution leverages ip.access’ nanoBTS GSM pico-basestation and controller to offer GSM coverage within an office building. The demonstration shows a call being generated by a GSM handset via the nanoBTS and then linked into the GSM PBX. The call is either routed internally to another extension within the building – either landline or mobile – or back to the landline operator. The solution incorporates all the usual functions associated with the enterprise PBX, including short code dialling, call-forwarding and conferencing facilities.

For small and large enterprises, the ability to create a cost-effective Wireless Office solution through the extension of the GSM macro network offers increased productivity and reduced communication bills. The ip.access equipment combined with the Zynetix solution gives the mobile network operators the ability to offer fixed operator displacement services that dramatically increase corporate customer average revenue per user (ARPU) with a rapid return on investment.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Simon Albury, Business Development Director for ip.access said, “ip.access’ GSM PBX solution offers mobile network operators a unique entry point into the fixed line market and access to a whole new revenue stream.” He continued, “With the “one-phone” vision now a reality for corporate customers, the benefits in terms of increased ARPU could be very significant for mobile operators.”

”At last it is now realistic for corporate phone users to benefit from the full flexibility of their PBX system with the convenience of a single GSM handset,” added Ian Taylor, Managing Director, Zynetix.

The ip.access nanoBTS is a GSM pico-basestation that uses IP networks to deliver cellular voice and data services in the smallest and most cost-effective package available today. Through the innovation of using IP as the backhaul medium, the nanoBTS provides coverage and capacity simply and efficiently. The nanoBTS is part of the ip.access nanoGSM™ solution, which allows network operators to boost mobile phone coverage in traditionally hard-to-reach areas, enabling new applications such as Wireless Office.
