MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- interWAVE(R) Communications (NASDAQ:IWAV) (NASDAQ:IWAVE) , a pioneer in compact wireless communications systems, today announced that it has entered into a cross-marketing relationship with Telemetrix, Inc., through its brand identity CentreGate(TM) , a provider of mobile switching services and other essential wireless solutions. Together the two companies will offer mobile operators throughout North America an affordable Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) solution based on CentreGate's hosted switching and intelligent network elements and interWAVE's Base Station Controller (BSC) and voice and data software.

"Collaborating with CentreGate will allow us to target mobile operators in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico, who are struggling with the economics of deploying a small or roaming only network," said Bill Carlin, chief operations officer of interWAVE. "The CentreGate hosted infrastructure model enables a pay-as-you-grow approach to deploying a network -- ideal for even the smallest of operators."

interWAVE and CentreGate plan to offer a complete solution for operators of GSM and CDMA networks, including a soft switch for mobile operators who wish to take advantage of a shared Mobile Switching Center (MSC), data capabilities, billing services, Short Message Services (SMS), Multimedia Message Service (MMS), roaming management, and various other back-office services. In addition, interWAVE and CentreGate will enable operators to connect into their networks via Internet Protocol (IP) as opposed to the traditional T1 alternative -- greatly reducing the cost of network operation.

"The flexibility of interWAVE's solutions enables a seamless integration into our hosted network infrastructure," said Greg Hull, executive vice president for Telemetrix, and the CentreGate suite product and service offerings. "This collaboration of resources provides our end users with a high degree of services and support."

Several United States-based operators, including Wilkes Cellular in Washington, Georgia, have already taken advantage of the interWAVE/CentreGate collaboration solution.

"We were looking for an affordable way to deploy a complete GSM network, while minimizing the cost associated with the purchase of a new switch, the addition of critical network peripherals, and the re-training and staffing of personnel," said Larry Houck, vice president of Wilkes Cellular, Inc. "The combination of interWAVE's advanced technology and CentreGate's hosted GSM switching, GPRS, and other essential wireless network solutions, will enable us to offer a comprehensive and market-competitive offering while re-focusing our capital expenditures on customer acquisition."
