OCALA, Fla. -- Intellon Corporation, the leading provider of HomePlug-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment and broadband over powerline (BPL) applications, announced today that it has shipped its three millionth HomePlug powerline communications IC. This important milestone demonstrates Intellon’s continued global leadership in HomePlug ICs sales as the company moves toward production of its new HomePlug AV chipset – the highly anticipated next-generation solution for home multimedia connectivity. Intellon has shipped over eight million powerline communications ICs across all of its product lines.
“Intellon is the dominant leader for HomePlug-certified silicon,” said Joyce Putscher, principal analyst with market research firm In-Stat/MDR. “This is certainly a tribute to Intellon's success in the marketplace. It also bodes well for future growth as we see HomePlug enjoying significant momentum as a broadband backbone play in the rapidly growing home-networking universe.”
Intellon’s market-proven HomePlug ICs are being used in a wide range of applications on six continents. Major service providers are using them to reduce cost and increase customer satisfaction in broadband installations, home networking and IPTV applications. Computer networking and consumer electronics companies are using them to provide whole home connectivity for broadband sharing, home networking and entertainment. Electric utilities and BPL providers are using them to manage the electric grid and deliver broadband services to the home over neighborhood electric lines. Other companies are using them to provide broadband services to hotels, condominiums, resorts, office buildings, military installations and emergency services facilities.
“Intellon has shipped more powerline communications ICs and enabled more powerline communications customers and products than any other company in the world,” said Charlie Harris, Intellon’s chief executive officer. “We are bringing customers to market at an accelerating pace, shipping hundreds of thousands of proven, cost-effective, standards-based ICs across the globe every month. Our customers clearly appreciate the benefits our market leadership, enablement experience, IC performance and commitment to standards-based solutions bring to their businesses.”
