OAKLAND, Calif. -- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZHNE - News), the first company dedicated to developing the full spectrum of next-generation local loop infrastructure solutions, today announced that IDS Telecom has selected and deployed Zhone's highly acclaimed Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC(TM)) for service delivery throughout its serving areas.
The MALC is a fully-featured Packet Loop Carrier (PLC) optimized for delivering voice, data, and video services over a pure packet access network. MALC allows for the flexibility to cost-effectively deliver triple play services over existing facilities today and to migrate these services on a port-by-port, service-by-service basis to a pure packet network. This migration is accomplished without disrupting subscriber service or revenue streams, giving carriers the ultimate flexibility for optimizing their networks and serving their subscribers.
Zhone's MALC and ADSL2+ line card were selected due to the flexibility they provide. MALC simplifies a carrier's network integration efforts while supporting the migration to packet networks by allowing carriers to immediately deploy using TDM circuit and ATM technology. Additionally, the MALC eases the migration to entirely IP packet access and transport as the carrier demands evolve without the need for additional hardware.
IDS Telcom was founded nearly 15 years ago in Miami and serves over 33,000 customers throughout the Southeastern United States. The company concentrates on offering alternatives to BellSouth for local, long distance and Internet services. Over 50 percent of IDS Telecom's clients are businesses based in South Florida. The company has recently implemented an aggressive plan for growth that has included adding more switches to its network and employing more sales resources.
"MALC is allowing us to migrate our customers from voice only services to voice, data and video services and allows us to support them with the same high level of quality and reliability as traditional, circuit-switched telephone networks," said Tony Petrone, Executive Vice President of IDS Telecom.
"The addition of Zhone's MALC technology in combination with IDS's strong growth and success of our data services network creates an unparalleled delivery vehicle, allowing IDS to deliver cost-effective solutions to our customers."
