Thuraya selects Huawei to build its first GPRS network; Huawei finishes construction of CDMA450 in Portugal

ABU DHABI, U.A.E. -- Huawei, announced today that the company signed a contract on June 6, 2004 with Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, the world's leading satellite telecommunications operator, to build its first GPRS network. The Huawei network is Thuraya's first packet service offering for its subscribers.

According to the contract, Huawei will supply the most advanced GPRS equipment, helping Thuraya to build a GPRS system that will offer Packet Switched Data services. The contracted network equipment includes the Serving GPRS Support Node, the Gateway GPRS Support Node and the Charging Gateway. The first stage of the project implementation will be accomplished by the end of this year.

Huawei's GPRS network, which is based on the 2.5G/ 3G shared platform design, is able to provide excellent interoperability, large capacity, easy expansion ability, flexible prepaid service and an efficient charging scheme.

SHENZHEN, China -- The professional European wireless operator Inquam chooses Huawei Technologies as its strategic partner to build a nationwide CDMA450 network for Radiometer, its subsidiary in Portugal. The network has now gone through the construction and testing. This symbolizes the first commercial application of CDMA450 in Western Europe and the startup of the global cooperation between Inquam and Huawei.
