HANNOVER, Germany -- Huawei Technologies, the largest networking and communications equipment company in China, today launched the world’s first UMTS1800 end-to-end solution. This breakthrough solution will provide telecommunications operators who possess spectrum license of 1800M advanced 3G service for the first time, that also helps customers reduce total cost of ownerships and generate greater profits. The new HUAWEI UMTS1800 solution enables operators to share their 1800M spectrum with the existing GSM1800.

Some of the features of the HUAWEI UMTS1800 include:

Co-cabinet of UMTS1800 and UMTS2100 Reduces Costs Telecommunications operators who possess spectrum licenses of 1800M will also possess spectrum license of 2100. Creating a co-cabinet of UMTS1800 and UMTS2100 is essential as it reduces the number of cabinets used, thus helping to dramatically lower the costs for equipment rooms and CAPEX. All of Huawei’s NodeBs support co-cabinets of different spectrums. Except for RF parts, other parts of NodeB can be shared between different spectrums.

Higher Quality of service

By supporting HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology, HUAWEI UMTS1800 offers breakthrough speed data services up to 14.4 Mbps in downlink, which is significantly faster than GPRS, EDGE and CDMA2000 mobile networks. This means shorter service response time and less delay for end users. Operators benefit from getting more revenue through driving up the consumption of data-intensive services as a result of higher quality services provided.

Smoother upgrade and expansion

HUAWEI UMTS1800 is designed based on future-oriented architecture, which results in easier upgrade and expansion. All of Huawei NodeBs meet different requirements of operators and support HSDPA with smooth software upgrade only. This allows operators to provide a higher rate of data service support and smooth expansion, which will bring down the total cost of ownership. Overall, this means a lower invest risk and greater profits for operators.

Cost-effective distributed Node B solution

HUAWEI UMTS1800 solution consists of an innovative NodeB type named distributed NodeB consisting of BBU and RRU. Huawei’s distributed NodeB can be easily installed, thus shortening the network deployment time and reducing man hours. The small footprint and low power consumption of Huawei’s distributed NodeB helps cut down on site rental costs and saves on power consumption.

We believe the launch of our new UMTS1800 solution will greatly benefit operators who possess spectrum license of 1800M, which is widely used worldwide in GSM. Huawei is focused on delivering the best products and solutions through continued research and development to enable our customers to enhance their competitiveness and profitability.
