MegaFon selects Huawei to build its GSM900/1800 dual-band mobile network in Russia, under a frame contract valued at nearly $60M

MOSCOW -- Huawei Technologies, announced that the company has signed a frame contract valued nearly US$60 million with MegaFon, one of the three biggest cellular operators of Russia, to build a GSM dual-band mobile network in Russia.

According to the agreement, Huawei will help to build a dual-band network for MegaFon to offer mobile services for a population of 30 million, reaching the Far East and Siberia area. The provided equipments include both base station system, mobile switching system and the GPRS platform. The first stage implementation of the project will cover a broad area including those leading cities like Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk and Vladivostok.

"Huawei Technologies, one of the leading manufacturers of cellular communication as well as other telecommunication equipment is booming as a glaring brand by its years of experiences and solid scientific and technical potential, "Mr. Alexey Nichiporenko, said the assistant to the general Director of MegaFon.

"This gave me full confidence of the successful execution and future operation of the network,"he added.
