SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Occam Networks Inc. (OTCBB:OCNW - News), a supplier of innovative Ethernet- and IP-based loop carrier equipment to telecommunications companies worldwide, today announced that the nation's largest telephone cooperative, Horry Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (HTC) of Conway, S.C., has selected the Occam BLC 6000 System to offer Next-Generation Services to its customers. HTC will first deliver high-speed ADSL2Plus and Lifeline POTS services to its subscribers in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as well as rural areas of Horry County. HTC presently serves over 100,000 access lines in the Horry and Georgetown Counties of South Carolina.

"HTC subscribers demand speed, efficiency, and an increasing level of functionality and new services," said Gene Prince, Network Engineering Manager for HTC. "Selecting the Occam BLC 6000 enables us to create an access network that delivers the services our subscribers need today as well as supports future services that we anticipate our subscribers will demand in the future. This level of flexibility helps to ensure subscriber satisfaction and gives HTC a competitive edge." HTC will deploy the BLC 6440 Gigabit Ethernet Optical Packet Transport Blade in its central office (CO) to deliver Gigabit Ethernet transport and to provide a direct next-generation softswitch connection, as well as the BLC 6640 Subscriber Trunk Gateway Blade to provide TR-08 and GR-303 Class 5 switch interfaces.

The S.C.-based cooperative selected the Occam BLC from among products from 11 other manufacturers during a two-month RFP process. Gene Prince stated, "One of our key reasons for selecting the Occam BLC 6000 was its broad array of features and its technology. Its Ethernet Protection Switching (EPS) was of particular importance to us since we don't want to sacrifice reliability for new features and services."
