HILLSIDE, N.J. -- Glowpoint, Inc., (NASDAQ: GLOW) the nation's first and leading enterprise-grade, IP-based video communications service provider, today announced that David C. Trachtenberg, 41, has been named Chief Executive Officer and President to lead the Company following the sale of its equipment division.

As a proven leader in launching, leading and growing Internet product and service companies, Trachtenberg brings 20 years of management, marketing and innovative product launch and delivery experience to Glowpoint. He will start on October 15 and will succeed Richard Reiss, who remains the company's largest individual shareholder and Chairman until his term expires in May 2004.

"David is the right leader at the right time for Glowpoint," said Reiss. "With Glowpoint's shift to a services and subscription-based business, David's appointment ushers in a new era and a new beginning for our award-winning IP video communications service. We wanted a leader who could leverage our vital and growing business, bring fresh ideas, rapidly scale our subscriber-based business and quickly capitalize on the domestic and international opportunities that will extend Glowpoint's footprint."

In September, Glowpoint, formerly known as Wire One Technologies, completed a transaction to sell its videoconferencing equipment division. As a result, the sale enables Glowpoint to transition from an equipment-focused company to a services-driven business dedicated to delivering an efficient, cost-effective, enterprise-grade IP videoconferencing tool for businesses around the U.S. and around the globe.

"Glowpoint is an exciting company and service," said Trachtenberg. "I'm impressed with the team and I'm thrilled about taking the company's technology and maximizing its high-value for customers, distributors and shareholders in the marketplace today and in the years to come. With corporate cost-cutting and cutbacks in travel and expenses, Glowpoint IP videoconferencing is a smart and efficient corporate tool for businesses, big or small, everywhere."

Trachtenberg most recently was President and Chief Marketing Officer of StarBand Communications, America's first consumer and small business high-speed, two-way satellite Internet provider.

During his StarBand tenure, Trachtenberg oversaw the company's service launch and grew the subscriber base to more than 40,000 with customers located virtually everywhere -- from the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the tip of the Arctic Circle - in less than two years. Trachtenberg also drove the creation of a sales agent network of more than 2,000 dealers located throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands supported by a world-class online dealer support, provisioning and commissioning system.

Prior to StarBand, Trachtenberg was President and Chief Operating Officer at Prodigy Communications Corporation. As a member of the executive management team, he brought the company public in 1999 and transformed it into the nation's largest consumer Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) Internet Service Provider (ISP). Prodigy was sold to SBC during Trachtenberg's tenure.

At MCI, Trachtenberg was the Executive Director of Internet Marketing for MCI's consumer and small business group. He created the corporate strategy and drove the tactical implementation that increased customer growth nearly 200 percent in one year.

Trachtenberg also worked at Bain & Company, an international consulting firm, for four years in their Boston and Paris offices.

As a Lauder Institute Fellow, Trachtenberg received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business and a Master of Arts in International Affairs from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University. Trachtenberg currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.
