JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Glenayre Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEMS) today announced that South Africa's leadership in next-generation messaging technology is to be highlighted later this month at GSM Africa 2005 in Cape Town with a unique, live demonstration of Glenayre Messaging's leading Video Mail application. The Versera Video Mail system, launched earlier this year by local operator MTN as part of its 3G rollout, is one of only a handful in existence.
The system is to be showcased in a demonstration hosted by Glenayre Messaging, a global leader in providing next-generation messaging solutions and enhanced services, and mobile operator MTN. Visitors to the show will be able to record their own video message using the live Video Mail system. Clips will be sent to the Glenayre booth (number C7) where they can be viewed through the MTN web portal.
"Our Video Mail system takes messaging to the next level," said Andy Minnaar, Glenayre Messaging's Johannesburg-based regional sales director. "Video Mail is enabling MTN to offer an attractive, high bandwidth service that capitalizes on their 3G technology investment and satisfies demanding subscribers. GSM Africa is the perfect venue for us to showcase this system in operation."
With Versera Video Mail, users can explore a new level of personalization by recording video greetings and leaving video mail messages for friends, family and colleagues. Versera Video Mail works like voice mail, but enhances the user experience by leveraging the advanced capabilities of 3G. Now, instead of receiving a voice-only greeting, callers can also see the subscriber inviting them to leave their message when they make an unanswered 3G call.
"With Versera Video Mail, users have all the traditional voice mail capabilities they are already familiar with, now available for full motion video and audio messages," said Santie Botha, executive director of marketing at MTN Group. "Using Glenayre's next-generation platform and advanced services like Versera Voice Mail, we plan to continue to offer our customers the widest range of wireless services possible."
