LOS ANGELES -- Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMST - News), a leading media, entertainment and technology company, has signed a multi-year interactive program guide (IPG) agreement with Changzhou Broadcast & Television Information Network Co. Ltd., (CZCATV), a cable operator with more than one million analog subscribers in the city of Changzhou in China’s Jiangsu province. The agreement allows CZCATV to incorporate Gemstar-TV Guide’s IPG products and services into set top boxes deployed to its emerging digital cable television subscriber base. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. As Gemstar-TV Guide continues to grow its international business, the deal marks the company’s entry into the China IPG market.

Under the scope of the IPG agreement Ching Hai Technology, a Shanghai-based distributor of digital software and hardware to CATV operators and CE and STB manufacturers in China, will work directly with CZCATV to handle client management, data collection, technical support and integration of the IPG, which is based on Gemstar-TV Guide’s G-GUIDE IPG, into the CZCATV systems.

"This is our first step into exploration of the China market, and it underscores our focus on offering IPG solutions to customers in international markets, specifically those where cable operators are just beginning to switch to digital services.” said Rich Battista, chief executive officer, Gemstar-TV Guide.
