BIRMINGHAM, U.K. -- Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airspan Networks (NASDAQ: AIRN), to enter into a reseller agreement for Airspan's AS.MAX family of WiMAX broadband wireless access products. The MoU will pave the way for the reseller agreement, under which Fujitsu will resell Airspan's HiperMAX, MacroMAX and MicroMAX base-station products, as well as EasyST and ProST customer premise equipment. The two companies will also evaluate options for incorporating Airspan's WiMAX technology into Fujitsu's GeoStream Access Gateway portfolio of products.
Andy Stevenson, General Manager of Fujitsu Telecommunications in Europe, commented: “WiMAX is the single most important development in broadband wireless access, and has generated enormous interest from large and medium sized operators in Europe, North America and Asia. The economies of scale and advanced technology offered by WiMAX makes broadband wireless an attractive complement to our already extensive copper and fibre access capabilities. In Airspan, we have found a partner that shares our vision of the access market. We have been impressed with the leadership that Airspan has shown with its AS.MAX products and our objective is to offer our customers a unique value proposition by bringing together our expertise with that of Airspan.”
Commenting on the agreement, Eric Stonestrom, President and CEO of Airspan Networks, said:"The interest in AS.MAX following its launch at CeBIT in March has been very encouraging. We are delighted to have been chosen by a world leader such as Fujitsu as its WiMAX partner. Fujitsu is a leading supplier of access and transport products to many of the world's leading carriers. Together, we will be able to bring truly innovative access solutions to customers in Fujitsu's key markets.”
