TAMPA, Fla. -- Wireless LANs are one of the industry’s most hyped technologies. While home use and public hotspots flourish, security concerns remain a major obstacle to corporate deployments with many organizations forced to chose between mobility and security. To accelerate corporate adoption of WLAN without compromise, Fortress Technologies today announced enhancements to the award-winning AirFortress product to enable any company, regardless of size, complexity, or stage of adoption, to easily secure wireless networks and devices. Enhancements include new no-compromise roaming capabilities and VLAN policy support for the deployment, change and growth of wireless LAN services throughout an enterprise network.

“The evolving complexities of wireless networks require flexible security and management to address challenges of new applications, services and infrastructures,” said Ken Evans, vice president of marketing and product management at Fortress. “With AirFortress, customers secure their corporate infrastructure without sacrificing flexibility, manageability, scalability or getting locked into an expensive single vendor solution or a dead-end wireless switch investment.”

Mobility Enhancements Deliver No Compromise Roaming CapabilitiesThe need to provide mobility without compromising security seems obvious, yet, when piecing together wireless solutions using VPN clients or AP-based authentication, network administrators have had to choose between seamless roaming and network security. This often concealed product trade-off either defeats the purpose of mobile applications or exposes the corporate infrastructure to new threats.

With optimized roaming capabilities, the AirFortress product now extends beyond basic sub-net roaming to encompass enterprise-wide mobility while maintaining strength of security for all wireless network traffic. Strong, yet flexible, access control policies allow AirFortress network mobility features to be configured to restrict certain areas of the wireless network from unintentional or inappropriate use by users who are outside their authorized work areas.
