LONDON -- FLAG Telecom (Nasdaq: FTHL; LSE: FTL), a leading global network services provider and independent carriers' carrier, today announced that Nile On Line, one of the largest privately owned public data networks based in Egypt, has acquired Managed Bandwidth Services (MBS) and Internet connectivity between Cairo and New York from the Telecom Egypt / FLAG Telecom point of presence (POP) located in the city center of Cairo. The long-term lease contract is for one STM-1 (155 Mbps) level capacity and includes an option to upgrade to an STM-4 (622 Mbps) level capacity within one year. Nile On Line becomes the first ever Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Egypt to lease and activate one complete STM-1 out of Egypt. This is made possible as a result of the establishment of a FLAG Telecom POP in Cairo and an agreement with Telecom Egypt to jointly provide network services to the international carrier community and ISPs supported by service level guarantees. FLAG Telecom's MBS product provides city-to-city connectivity from the center of Cairo to major business centers across the world. Eng. Alaa Fahmy, Chief Technical Officer of Nile On Line, noted: "Our objective is to provide cutting-edge technology that will improve the performance of businesses in Egypt and empower them to conduct commerce globally. To that end, Nile On Line pioneered the introduction of broadband connectivity in the Egyptian market when we leased a complete DS3 circuit in June of last year. As a result, we are experiencing an increase in demand for Internet capacity. As the only operator with the ability to offer advanced network services from the city center of Cairo to the world's other major business centers, this agreement with FLAG Telecom was a natural and needed step to achieve this objective."Flag Telecom
