Essex and Fiberspace demo 6.25-GHz ultra-dense WDM at Supercomm, using hyperfine WDM and Gridlocker Lasers
May 21, 2002
COLUMBIA, Md. -- Essex Corporation (OTCBB: ESEX) and Fiberspace, Inc. (Woodland Hills, CA) will demonstrate OC-48 transmission at unprecedented 6.25 GHz channel spacing in booth 24162 at SuperComm 2002 (Atlanta, GA, June 4 - 6, 2002). Combining Essex hyperfine WDM technology with Gridlocker(TM) ultra-stable tunable lasers from Fiberspace enables new wavelength architectures that promise to maximize the utility of installed fiber while enhancing inexpensive broadband connectivity. "Hyperfine WDM is capable of very narrow channel spacing, from 25 GHz to 3.125 GHz or less, enabling services such as 'Virtual OC-768' and optical GigE using individual 3.125 GHz spaced wavelengths," stated Terry Turpin, Essex CTO. "The hyperfine WDM device and Fiberspace Gridlocker combination delivers a synergy of technologies previously unavailable." This live demonstration will show transmission of multiple OC-48 signals separated by 6.25 GHz after de-multiplexing with a hyperfine WDM device. The demonstration will incorporate three Fiberspace Gridlocker ultra-stable tunable lasers, each laser offering industry-leading accuracy and stability of +/-250 MHz over the laser's lifetime.
